GetOutdoorsGeorgia.org

Site Objective: GetOutdoorsGeorgia.org was a Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites initiative to get people more involved in the state parks. It was designed to be sister site to the main State Parks site that gave users a way to get involved in the state parks system from an activities point of view. For example if you wanted to go fishing, in the current site you would need to know the park to go to, but in the new site you would be provided a list of parks that had that activity.

A strategic partner of the initiative was Google, so integration of Google Maps and Widgets was required.

Site Specifications: The site was built using classic ASP and Oracle as the database. A database was developed to house information about all of the 63 state parks and historic sites, activities at those parks, groups and programs at each site, as well as events.

The Google Maps API was used to locate parks, get directions from your location to the park, and display activities, groups and programs locations.

Development Specifications: Development consisted of:

  • designing and building the Oracle database
  • Building the site to display the data from the database on the site
  • Integrating Google Maps with the database to display location information as well as driving directions and interactive “Find a Park” functionality
  • Integrating third party newsletter signup into the site
  • Building contact forms to email administrators if people were interested in supporting the Get Outdoors initiative.
